The Daytona Coupe won the "Worlds Manufactures Championship" in 1965. It was the only American car to do so. This is an authorized "continuation version," owned by Robert Sarrailh, (in this photo with me).
I drove this car for several hours here at the 2012 Le Mans Historic. This photo was shot at the end of the Famous "Mulsane" straight where the Coupes exceeded 190MPH, and the Ford GT's exceeded 213 MPH.
This car, being the only car designed and built in house at Shelby American, is therefore, Carroll Shelby's greatest accomplishment.
Certainly however, those of us on the Shelby American Racing Team can be proud of our accomplishments up through 1967 when Henry Ford shut down the Le Mans program.
